There was a recent article in Rolling Stone magazine that said 68% of Americans listened to Christian or gospel music in the last 30 days. And that Christian singer Laurent Daigle had an album which recently reached the #3 spot on the Billboard 200. Wow. What does that say to us? Especially those of us who write, play and sing Christian music? No, we don’t want to just jump on the bandwagon because it’s popular, or thinking we’re going to get rich. Although we may be tempted to do so, that would be doing the right thing but for the wrong reason. So we must first search our motives and ask God for direction. He knows our hearts, he gave us the music that is within us, and only He knows where, when and how it should be used. But this information certainly lets us know that people are listening and need to hear the message that is in the music that God gives us to sing and play.
So what about you? Are you using the gifts God has given you? If not, why not? Are you thinking you’re not good enough? Thinking you don’t have anything to say, or don’t know how to say it? No one is going to listen?
Your gift is uniquely yours, given to you by your Lord knows exactly how you should use it. Discouragement and feeling inferior do not come from Him. There is a world out there that needs to hear the music that God has put in you!
